Newbie with a Mk1 Cabrio GTI Engineering 2.0 16v Oettinger project

Post

My uncle bought this Cabrio in 1985 and took it straight to a company called GTi Engineering in Silverstone to have it converted from a 1.8 8v to a 2.0 16v.  She has been sat in a garage since 1990 so the time has come to bring her to life again.  Spent the last month replacing everything that was seized which seems to be everything so hopefully it will be ready to start soon, just waiting for the metering head to come back from KMI and hopefully good to go, very excited now.

Wow, that is one interesting car. Looks a real sleeper from the outside,  think I would invest in a Perspex bonnet so you can admire the engine all the time.

I think that was always his plan, to be kept as original as possible on the outside but a little extra kick under the bonnet. Hopefully be able to road test it in the next 2 weeks

Wow nice find this - fair play on the work done so far. Bet it's going to be a rocket. Your uncle will be well proud.

Bet there wasn't any change out of £3500 for that.

Very rare engine with a unusual cab choice. Lovely car!! Great to see more GTI Engineering work coming to the surface.

This is the information sheet you already have, might print off a bit clearer for you, plus a reference to the same engine at the top of the page from a separate brochure…

Thanks for that, always good to get more information on it. I have the information sheet but cant find any of his invoices that proves the work has been done and exact date which would be handy as he never had the V5c registration changed so that could be a headache. The plaque is also missing which would have been nice to have!!!
