Edition 38

First time at ed38 today and never seen so many show cars… 8O alot of bling cars and newer models, didn`t think much of the toilet set up and would`nt of wanted to clean them afterwards…Tried to find the mk1 owners stand but no joy so parked up near the beetle cars and chilled out.. :D

i don't think there was a club stand as such, think that idea dissolved

found dougelove when i was in a very drunk state last night though.
spotted his cabby and stood there shouting his screen name til he surfaced.

:(  mmmm i couldnt make E38 htis year as i was working……

but i still cant understand why "the mk1 owners club" always have a really under represented or hardly anyone on the stand if they do have one?
why is it? there are loads of members but no one seems to really put themselves out to arrange it or organise a "convoy" from there point of the country to all the decent shows.

i must say it seems a bit flat…shows are what its all about….there are some superb cars on this forum but it dont have to be a show stopper to be on a club stand does it?

Think your still drunk check the thread out, there were at least 7 cars who asked to be on it.You showed the most interest so can`t understand you saying there was no club stand… :banghead:  :banghead: bit more confirmation needed next time on it being off or on.

Drunk??????? :dontknow:  oh well…….i always show interest in dub shows.i like showing my cars, there not 10k master pieces and i dont own my own body shop but they are clean and as spot on as i can afford them to be…but like i said i couldnt make it ot this one as i was working………and due to a seeming lack of enthusiasm from mk1 owners :dontknow:  if i had gone, given that only 7 people were willing to show!! i would have probably gone with the VR6OC stand with my Highline, as on a bad day you get about 20 cars turn up!!!
im not being over critical i just think more people could make an effort to bring the club upto the mark so to speak
How nice would it be for any V dubber to see 20 or 30 mixed mk1`s be they cabbies or originals all lined up at a show?
I know people work and are busy with other stuff sometimes but it seems every show this year has been severely under represented, what about ultimate Dubs? mk1 car park dreams? about 5 cars rolled up……Santa pod gti festival…..again about 5 cars turned up on the stand……i just think more effort is needed

that reply was for the previous comments by mk1 john,i agree theres not alot of interest when it comes to the shows and i don`t know why… :dontknow: a mk1 stand would get more interest than any other club, lets face facts everyone loves the mk1 but not everyones brave enough to own one.Hope next years better

Hi Guys, sorry I was one of those who was supposed to be on the stand but my gearbox decided to change itself from working to non working broken bits at 70 on the M20,I have apologised to all those concerned and beg forgiveness

Speeding is like masturbation, everyone does it ,but it's not something you should record and put on the internet!!

i arrived at about 10 and could not find the stand

i was with g60rge, we came together

we could not find the club stand nor a group of mk1s

i was really hoping to display my car, i put alot of work in the night before (in the garage till 1.30am) but no stand was visible so i parked near some others and went to the main show field

i did hope to have a chat to the mk1 oc and get to know people

maybe some more organisation next time

cracking show

some very nice mk1's

I didn't go this wekend but I do know that the club banner went to VW Action at Santa Pod. That could explain why no one could find the club pitch and as they didn't locate it easily they simply parked else where ???

Having tried to organise the Ultimate Dubs stand for March earlier this year, I found it quite frustrating to hear the moans that our alotted position was not very good. If we want to promote the club then we HAVE to book early, have owners who will commit to being present a long time in advance and get organised. I began to canvas for owners who would be interested, some time around October/November 06 for the 07 show. Its no good just expecting to arrive on the day, find it pouring with rain and complain about being outside. We CAN have an inside stand but only if we guarantee to turn up and fill it.

Its not fair to expect to be given a position only to let the organisers down.

Every other show has the club plots already set out but ed38 was different it was just park where you want this is why no one knew where to go.We do need to sort things out earlier and everyone needs to agree and stick to it as much as possible, maybe invest some more in a couple of gazebos and some more banners after talking to paul c at inters i`m aware we have some funds.I`d much rather see the mk1`s all together than spread all over. Even the lupo`s have more cars than we do….

As Dano said, I think VW action robbed some cars for us!

Even still, we do need commitment from people earlier in order to book up the club space.

Both shows' organisation started pre- Ant5 (Anthony and Claire) being the events organisers. Since this is the last main show of the year (I think??) I'd suggest we now look to make constructive suggestions on how to approach next year's events, given that there are A LOT of them through the year and its not possible for everyone to be at every one of them.

VW Action wasn't really designed to have club displays, it was more a case of club camping, so they didn't accommodate people arriving on the Sunday for the day, to park in the club camping/club stand area. I was surprised it was around 90% aircooled, I thought it was going to be 50/50 or so. I guess those aircooled guys all like to camp over and dress up in fancy dress, etc. Or tune their cars to make them 12 second dragsters…

Dan, on the subject of Ultimate Dubs, I would be happy to have one of the outdoor stands, the ones where you come out the exhibition centre and go up the steps. If we had outside spot we can erect the marquee and bring a stove for cups of tea (I'll bring the stove  :) ). If you need to start booking now for Ultimate Dubs, could we put feelers out for attendees, I'm a deffo.

Think the way forward is to get a thread rolling at least a few months before the shows are due…….post up on the initial post 1st page (names posted on by a mod as interest is exprested in the thread) whos wanting to be on the stand who knows they should?? reliability   be available to definately attend, maybe that way any person who has last minute glitches or cant make its place can be filled by a "reserve" if there is enough cars initially!!!!!
I think it would be quite reasonable to expect 20 cars to turn up from all that are on the forum?
It just means that anyone who puts their name down really does need to make the effort to attend as the places would have been booked
Sometimes peoplear eput off as they think their cars not good enough or they are worried about strangers!!!!
Dont forget a lot of strangers are just friends you havnt met yet!!
