The ABF came in the mk3 golf gti 16v
Id also look into 9a (2.0 16v) or even 6a (2.0 16v) engines
What model mk1 are you converting (engine size)?

Take a look at this if you havent already its a really good read for the 16v conversion:

What you need depends on what set up you want to run, im putting a 2.0 16v in my mk1 but im using the original kjet system for fuelling and the original 8v gearbox so all I needed was the engine, the engine ecu / ignition module and wiring loom,mk2 golf 16v throttle cable ,16v conversion exhaust manifold and to fit the 8v clutch flywheel to the 16v engine so that the gearbox goes on.

Also did all mk3 golf gti s have the 2.0l ABF engine in or just a few of them . Because if i pull the 16v out for my mk2
I would put a 2.0l ABF engine in the mk2 golf shell mybe

only mk3 golf gti 16v had the abf. the normal gti was 8v. you can get the abf is seat cordoba, toledo and ibiza but mkae sure its 2.0 16v not 1.8.
the SEAT ADL 1.8 looks similar to an abf as the engine managment is nearly the same, but underneath its still just a kr lump
