Mk1 BAM Conversion

Hi

I'm considering the 225 BAM conversion, into my Mk1 Sportline Cab, and rather than ask any technical questions, I'd much rather ask if there's anyone that's capable of doing the conversion. Like most people, I bought the Mk1 with the idea of doing it myself, however, I'm just too busy and far too mechanically inept. I don't mind considering using a specialist, but my experience of other classic cars is that there are often "amateur" forum members that are more than capable of doing even the most technical of jobs, and often to an equally or higher degree.

So, any pointers in the right direction would be gratefully received.

Regards

Where do you live mate?

Fitting the engine is very straight forward, to fit you just need mount conversion brackets, 1 for the engine side 2 for the gearbox unless you plan to use the old gti box but i would not recommend it..
Will need a downpipe which you can buy off the shelf (Qpeng), its then a case of fitting an intercooler and depending on what type whill be what rad i used a mk2 16v with a slimline fan but i was using a forge cooler which is rather thick but it was perfect.. which i have for sale
I used a 2.5" exhuast system which i have for sale too except the backbox section
Need boost pipes which is not hard to work out.
Cable change shifter again very easy mod todo, i used a A3 shifter.
and there is 4/5 wires to connect, thats prolly the hardest bit

prolly missed stuff but im in a little bit of a rush lol but it gives you a bit of a clue :)

You've made that sound so easy, I reckon I'd finish it in a weekend?!? Meanwhile, back in the real world………..  :D

Assuming you had all of the parts, and you're not too bothered about engine dressing, how long does this conversion normally take? I've done a few, including the rebuild on my Integrale, and the major issue was the bits, quite a lot of which are NLA (no longer available), and waiting for things to be re-finishined/powder-coated etc. There were at least 20 jobs on the rebuild that stopped me in my tracks for a weekend, none of which were documented on the forums, and it's those "little" jobs that stall a project.

I really want the GTi to be ready for February/March, hence asking if there were forum members that were already tooled-up/skilled and available to do the work.
