is it possible put abs brake and all wheel drive the mk1 ?

Sorry if i open the subject in wrong place / or this subject is exist before.
i wanna learn that is it possible that  put abs brake system and make all wheel drive mk1 1.8 gti ? if this possible, which car's which parts needed ?  Thanks for helping.

The problem with ABS is that while you could in theory transfer the components from one car to another, its way it works relates to the weight, and the weight distribution, of a car quite closely. So it would work of sorts, but not ideally. Last thing you want is ABS that makes braking worse, not better.

4WD has been done a few times but the work is extensive and even then, the related cars (like Mk2 Golf Synchro) you might take the parts from, are getting old, are quite rare, and the 4WD system isn't that good in them anyway, being part time systems that detect slip then progressively engage RWD. If you wanted a better, more modern system, then you'll need to do a lot of electronics and/or use some kind of standalone controller. And it adds weight, which has a negative effect on the handling and performance which isn't gained back unless its really high horsepower or non-tarmac road use of 4WD.

Thanks for your reply Paul. I understood what you mean. I just though a car looking old, but system is modern ( engine or brake or etc)  I think better is use original mk1. thanks again.

ABS is very possible.
By adding aftermarket traction control from the likes of racelogic you can add the option for launch control and ABS, guy I used to know stuck a T16 engine into a peugeot 305 works van and used this system to keep it in check!

Yes! using all VAG items as well.. Parts Required:

polo 9n abs pump unit.
mk2 g60 front hubs + isomeric top mounts.
mk3 golf anversery rear disc conversion.
all abs wiring for sensors and pump connector.
Then mash it all together, works a treat on mine also with the added 1.8t tractions control works as well..

Thanks Willowraf, i think its not easy but possible.

First about the ABS - yes, as said before - it is doable and not that hard. Bear in mind that the only bolt-on work is at the rear - and not entirely - you have to drill the body for the ABS wires and find a route for them At the front there is no option to bolt the sensors/rings at the control arm/hub, so you must come with a solution - either machine them or change them for mk2/mk3/something else. You can find some good info here about the ABS upgrade - if you have problems with understanding the translated site - feel free to ask.

This are some of the 4WD(there are even 4WD&ABS) conversions - you can make it your way. Some have shortened the rear axle others haven't. You should consider this and also the propshaft length
Both ABS and 4WD combined is not a problem - you can take the rear parts from a Passat B3 G60 syncro or B4 syncro - most of them have rear discs and have ABS.  The front is the same 2WD/4WD.
