identifying 9a block ???

can anybody please tell me how i can identify a 9a block and a kr head please

check round the back of the block, it'll have a huge 2.0 or 1.8 cast into it. the head is same for kr and 9a, just difference in years. main thing is what cams does it have, but in doubt just get a pair of kr ones.

if it has 2.0 on the back and a crank sensor in the front its an abf block which would be a bonus

thanks for the reply mate,it does have  a big 2.0 on the block,and i have juet ordered the new piston rings

If you have the engine what about finding the engine number which vw stamped into it to identify it (not the cast numbers) which should confirm what 2 litre engine it is

from what i can remember it starts with ACE******

ok thats an audi ace block, which is same as a 9a :)
