heavy steering....?

is mk1 golf steering always heavy.

it is a lot heavier than my g40 steering but has the g40 wheels on it. so the tyres widths are the same

could it be because i have a small steering wheel on the golf.

when i do an engine conversion, is there anyway i can make it power steering aswel

You wouldn't believe how often this comes up…….have you seen the number of threads on power steering!!! As I see it, VW never did RHD Mk1s with power steering, TSR did a kit based on the Nissan Bluebird rack but they're no longer in business. Some later LHD cabbys had power steering. So you could always convert to LHD too.

Its quite likely your top mounts are worn and are causing the problem. There are many previous topics on here about that also!

My car has the standard steering wheel, which does help. I drove a few with smaller sports wheels and they really make it hard work. Still heavy if your coming from a power assisted car though.

my g40 was not power assisted as they dont come with power steering.

might change the steering wheel over and sell this one. looks like a momo one. also been told that i can get a geometry check done to check camber etc.
