brakes...

I have managed to pick up a 256mm front and 239mm rear disc set up

I am looking at fitting this to my mk1 driver, i was wondering if there are any problems people have come across?

At the moment i have…
vented 256mm drilled discs
pads for above
calipers
carriers

solid 239mm rear discs
bearings
calipers
carriers
stub axles
backing plates

i know i will need new handbrake cables (are the 16v scirocco ones suitable?) and a bigger master cylinder (any recommendations on size/vehicle?)

Thanks
Chris

yep, recently doing one on a mk1 cabrio, you will need a brake proportioning valve, this fits on the axle/body to stop the back brakes from locking up (nightmere to fit) if you dont fit this you can fit inline proportioning valves but you stil run the risks of the rear brakes locking up, something you dont want when going round a corner and your back brakes lock up, smash into the curb and your rims youve just spent 600 odd quid on are mashed. (this happend someone i know in his corsa, fittd no valves at all) also, you will need new brake pipes as you will need slightly longer ones, and whilst your there you may aswell dp your flexi brake pipes,  not to sure about the handbrake cables as the ones im fitting where included in the kit, the fronts will be straight forward, unbolt your old carriers bolt your new ones on, fit discs pads, etc calliper etc and there you are, i also advise fitt9ng new front flexis whilst your there, bought mine the other week about 5pound each from euro carparts, not expensive at all, and you more or less have em off anyway.

hope this helps

if you need anything else, i will try and help you as i am nearly finishing the conversion my self for a friend, and can tell you what troubles i came across.

i always have the last laugh ;)

thanks for the help…

which flexihoses did you use just standard mk1 ones?? I think i will be replacing them with braided ones anyway

Is the mk2 16v master cylinder the best to get??

I will be converting the front first which should make life easyier as i will make sure all that works properly first, but what model do i get the proportioning valve from?? (is this the same as the bias valve?)

good luck with finishing yours off :)

Cheers
Chris
