I've virtually finished building my 2.0 8v up, spec is 2.0 agg with 1.8 dx cylinder head which is a tsr ported, polished, gas flowed number with bigger valves. Also running a piper cam.
My question is it worth getting the flywheel lightened and balanced along with the crankshaft and pulley whilst it's at this stage or will the difference in response be minimal and a waste of money?
Opinions pretty please

2.0 is not a particularly revvi engine. Long stroke gives a smooth response with plenty of torque. For the cost involved I'd keep it standard but it all depends on what you intend to do with it.

next stage is probably putting a 4-1 exhaust next on the shopping list. if you haven't already done this.

Lightening the flywheel is well worth the effort…no need to worry about the balancing tho…it's a nice luxury but not eessential.

Thanks for the replies chaps
Got a 4-1 manifold already and an Omp Exhaust which looks to have minimal baffling - should be interesting!
Ok I think I will have the flywheel lightened but not go crazy. The trouble is I have no base to make a judgement as i've never driven my mk1 in standard form nor 2.0! Bought it as a non runner with rotten fuel tank, fudged fuel pump and worn 1.8 engine.
Cero I understand you have the same engine plumbed in? Did you have any clearance issues with the tall block at all?
thanks
