16v turbo project

Hello all :D

after a few months of searching i have now bought a mk1 1983 glx  8) its a series 2 which origionaly i didnt want as i wanted small rear lights like the series1 but i'll come back to that

The car is solid, its still got 10months mot and 2 months tax on it 8O  the only rust is on the outer front wing and the usual small scabs along the bottom of the drivers door other than that is solid!!

Anyway im whipping the engine out to stick a 1.8 16v engine in it, im having the whole car resprayed after its been stripped then fully rebuilt. I want to keep things retro ect but i want something a little bit quicker  So ive opted for the  16v turbo technics kit, however i understand there is an issue with the exhaust manifold not fitting the mk1….how am i going to get around this?

Also back to the rear lights, how can i fit series 1 rear lights, ideally i dont want to have to cut and shut the rear panel, but if it comes to it im willing:lol:

Do you have a 16V turbo technics kit - Cos they are quite rare.
Funnily enough though, there was one on EBAY the other day. If you are lucky it is still there. It was a complete kit too I think…

alright N1Ck, just replied on Volksdevil as well

You could change rear panel for older spec one but seems a shame to chop out a good panel for no real reason.  Looking at the panels (apart from the swallow tail) the only difference is the length of the apeture, so i dont see why a decent body shop couldnt weld a plate in? It would be easier than most of teh smooth tailgates they do these days!, only a flat panel!

Good luck with it and get those pics up

Any advice on the manifold?

The manifold shouldn`t be the problem, you have to use it for the turbo, it`ll be the down pipe you`ll have probs with.  You would prob have to have a custom down pipe made.
I have a 16v Turbo Technics motor tucked away, out of curiosity how much did you get yours for?
