Your 1st Mk1!
nice one collo, love it!
My first mk1, GTi I bought a few years ago after coming along to No-Rice with amk2 owning mate….
Bought it with No V5 and no MOT! All turned up fine though!
First Mod…repainting front and rear panels matt black.
Last Mod…'modifying' the front panel by hitting a dog in the fast lane of the motorway at 80 on the way to Inters 2004…
Loved that car and wish I hadn't sold it now. rough on outside but solid floorpan and so much fun!

I bought A475 VHR (1983 1.3 Driver) late 2005 as a reward for my first month's work after graduating! Bought for ?450. Replaced interior and found all the parts that were missing, 'Driver' rear badge, parcel shelf etc. Don't know why I sold her but got ?900, sold to a local kid as his first car, have seen it a couple of times since and the kids kept it original
Used the proceeds to by a Vento ops: which I riced up a bit, then sold to fund a mortgage deposit!
Now I'm back with a cabby, still aint bought my house yet but got bitten the usual way (Bored one evening, went on eBay, contacted seller, saw it on a sunny day, was on my drive the day after!)

My first was a Mars red German import 1.6LS, with 90hp back in 1985. Initially loaned to me by a friend whilst my first car (Opel Ascona) was in the garage receiving work. The said Opel was sold back at the auctions and I snapped up the Golf. Loved the car though it was tatty. It went like stink. I personalised it with GTI arches (to cover the rust) and Kamei front spoiler (to hide the dented front valance. I also updated to plastic bumpers, binning the chrome ones
The mods could hide the rust but not when the rear suspension lost it's hold on the floor pan due to yet more tin worm  so with a heavy heart I laid it to rest. A Mk1 scirocco followed and then I entered the Golf GTI zone
"MK1's" owned, past and present:
1976 Golf 1.6 LS LHD Mars Red (1985-1986)
1979 Scirocco 1.6 GLS Indiana Red Metallic (1986 - 1988)
1983 Golf 1.8 GTI Lhasa Green (1988-1990)
1981 Golf 1.1 C Mars Red (1990)
1982 Golf 1.6 GTI Diamond Silver (1990-1991)
1982 Jetta 1.6 GL Diamond Silver (2002-2003)
1987 Golf 1.8 GTI Cabriolet Saphire Blue (2005-2006)
1983 Golf 1.8 GTI Alpine White (2003-present and beyond)

My first mk1 @ 19 was a 1981 X 1.6 GTI, in my eyes this car was the dogs but after a few years and lots of money later it was sold on, the car was nicknamed by mates as the purple peril, if ever there was a car that had all of the common faults this was it, i have seen them all, however it didn't stop me loving the mk1 and it still remains one of my all time favourite cars, not once did this car break down, even when i drove it 260 miles back from newquay with a damaged crank, nor when i drove it from work on 3 cylinders after the dreaded filler neck took its toll and i had water in my cylinders. Needless to say 10 years on i now have a GTI which is in a lot better shape.

This is it - bought in 1985 and I've still got it. Do tend to keep cars a long time but I'll never part with this one.
Best moment was a knock on the door from the police to say it had been recovered 12 years ago, but could have been going to Wolfsburg or going through the Alps or a lot of other places.
