Where to look for a Mk1?
Doesn't seem to be many GTi's for sale at the mo, so was wondering where else to look.
I've tried the following:-
Club GTi
GolfGTI
Edition 38
Volkszone
Caddy forum
Piston heads
I've been looking for the right one for a year. They are either way over priced for a wreck or mint and over budget. Or 'boy racered' up and they still think it is worth loads - I wouldn't mind so much if they had some mods i liked.
All i'm looking for is a reasonably decent 1800 Gti without a sunroof. Ideally around the 1500 mark, but they just don't seem to be about at the moment - or I just can't find one.
Any other places i should be looking at???
Thanks

Oh yeah, I have tried the bay. Lots of vehicles being 'bid up' only to be relisted.
How about you selling me one Ben? You're just down the road and didn't you pick up that little green number recently?
Lots of old for sale ads on here, but people just don't seem to 'clean up' their forsale ads once the cars have gone.
It doesn't help that I am fussy, but the right car will come along……..
Cheers

Fussy + ?1500 = long wait
I reckon serious sellers are holding off and braving the lack of money it would bring in, over winter time, to try sell in the spring, hoping that economic prospects are looking a little brighter. I am a little bit surprised there's none for sale by people facing redundancy, or who need the cash, etc but I guess this is a good sign both for the economy and Mk1 Golf GTIs?

If you find one on ebay, go to look at it, decide if you want it and leave the seller your number. Explain that you'll bid what you think it's worth and should it 'sell' for more to a dodgy buyer who doesn't collect, they can phone you back and talk business.
Had this arrangement with the guy I bought mine from although in the end I won the auction for less than my max. bid anyway 8)

I probably am a bit too fussy, but there just doesn't seem to be many about at the mo. Last year before Xmas, there were lods up, I wasn't quite ready then - typical.
Paul - You are right about the economic climate, which made me think more 'toys' would be up for sale.
Helios - Check out Mk1 GTis on Piston Heads - helios blue one for 2800, but it does look nice.
Plenty of silver ones about though, but I just don't like them.
Maybe you are just fussier than me!!!
Ben - keep me in mind if you 'happen' across any more…..
Cheers

Just taken a look at the mk1 on Autotrader for ?995 and it does not look too bad. Has 11 months MOT as well...interior is tidy so I would go and take a look at that mate..

I've already contacted him - just waiting to see if it is still available.
Looks ok on the pics - I'll try and get up tomorrow night.
Wish i'd spotted that Friday, but I don't look on Autotrader too much as they rarely come up.

It has a sunroof but is still there
Still, if it is still there next weekend I may well be heading up with the trailer as it would be a monster trek for a week day evening.
Also, far better to look at these in the light.
