Viewing Mk1 tommorow - Advice !

Hi all,

Been 10 years since I sold my Lhasa Green Mk1 (A72 MRH) for the deposit for the house, but my resistance has broken.

Viewing Mk1 tomorrow, but I was always a "cosmetic" ( cleaner ?) owner rather than mechanical.

I've just read the full guide on buying a MK1 on this site, and just wonder if I could ask a few Q's?

How much would new:

(a) Valve Stem Oil seals
(b) Valve Guides
© Piston Rings

In terms of smoking during start up , overrun & acceleration.

The car has 11mths MOT Black 1.8 Y/A Reg, asking 850 poundage.

I feel able to deal with the danger rust areas, rust around filler cap etc.

Cheers

The main areas for concern are rot, rot and a bit of rust here and there.

I dont think valve oil seals are a major job as there is a VW tool to do it without removing anything major

as said, a healthy shell is prefered. valve stem seals and such are not expensive. the biggest cost of these jobs are labour if you go to a garage.

where are you looking at the car? some one may be local to there and pop down with you.
