differences....

hi all, im still a bit new to mk1's so excuse my arrogance if this has been asked a thousand times before.

I currently have a phase two mk1, with the big bumpers and rear lights. I really want to convert this to an earlier look so what is needed? I have seen small light rear panels, but i am wondering can i utilise my existing large panel and simply have the difference in light size welded up?

Secondly, the bumpers. What do the small bumpers usually go for? i've seen different sets go for stupidly different prices, and as above, how easy is it to convert from one to the other?

Any help is much appreciated!

cheers in advance,

J

helo, i have seen a series 2 converted to small lights using the original rear panel and he cut down and customised the rear lights looked ok but didnt look right.

yes you can buy small light rear panels but, if you ask me it should be kept as it should be, if you want a series 1 get a series 1. plastic bumpers and big lights have good points too!

also you can get early small crome bumpers off ebay but are expencive, i have not changed the bumpers but wouldnt of thought it was too difficult.
the front wings will be left with a hole were the mounts go.

if you get the chrome bumpers with their original hangars, the swap straight over, other wise, you can modify you current hangars to fit with a bit of cutting and bending.

The only problem is that you will be left with holes in the front wings and lower rear corners where the larger bumpers had a "Clip" to brace the wrap around sides… Not a problem if your car is yet to be painted  :dontknow:

This has been answered before do a search on "series 1"

Quickest, cheapest and most authentic way to do it would be to sell your series 2, then, buy a series 1.
