Chrome grille madness!

Chrome grilles…latest sale on Ebay for a 2nd hand one…?88 + ?10 p&p. I'm sure one sold recently for over ?100 aswell???

I agree these are a nice finishing touch and can fit in with numerous 'looks' from rat-look to polished bling…but if these were still made by VW I'm sure you'd pay less for a brand new one!  8O I think there's more of them around than people think.  :?

is ?103 (current) for a wolfsburg wheel a bit bonkers as well, i mean the centre is even worn…..

i have one of these wheel's at home but i havent got a centre for it. came with my car when i bought it.

Try this one that you can get new from the dealers for about a third the price. :roll:

are the normal gti red surround grilles are these aluminium, or are they actual steel, if thats the price for one, be cheaper to strip yer red one then take to chromers for them to chrome it.
Don`t reckon you can chrome them if there ally, but you could polish it up from bare metal   :dontknow:  :dontknow:

Haven't checked at the dealer but I reckon they will be, well my sources say they are.

Ditto, the seller made a rubbish attempt of an auction so I got a bargain most people must have missed.  I transferred the chrome trim to a better plain grille. The chrome isn't mint, but still looks smart enough for a daily driver. Paying ?80+ for one would make me feel ill (not to put down anyone who can afford that sort of money on trim- I would if I could.)

Kenno - I don't know about the red grille trim, don't recall anyone who's chromed one…good idea though  :wink:

Blans - those steering wheels always fetch a lot. I recall one on ebay a couple of years ago fetched ?90 (very nice condition), so ?102 is to be expected I suppose. Check if anyone on here will sell you one cheaper!

I remember when single light chrome grilles cost hardly anything.

I bought my Wolfsburg steering wheel about 3-4 years ago, leather too! for about ?15 hehe. Granted the horn push is bust, though i still have a horn, just located elsewhere!

when i first got my mk1 it had two complete chrome grill and i let one go for free.  wish i kept it now!!!

8O whats worse for me is that when i moved house i threw…yes threw about 4 complete grilles in the local recycle centre chrome and red trim an all!!!! along with loads of other mk1 bits inc a diesel diesel pump and manifolds etc :cry:  it was this time last year just before i got another mk1 though

Popped into dealers about a year ago and tried oredering the chrome trim which was obviously obsolete.The price for the left and right pieces were ?4.17 per piece + VAT.The centres were ?18 per piece plus VAT.About ?50 all in all , wish i could turn back the clock. :roll:

i was watching that chrome trim on ebay since day one. could not belive it when i saw what it fetched. as soon as it went over 50 quid, i lost interest in buying it. silly money. carried on watching it for sheer amusment.
