I did put in some super from Texaco the other day, (usually use normal) and it did seem to have more punch about, MPG is better but then your getting less for your money so it probably balances out anyway. I'm not running high compressions though, thats when it makes a difference.
Seems to make a difference which Texaco garage I use too, so go figure..

i always use standard shell unleaded in my clipper and it runs well but im gonna splash out and put some optimax/vpower or what ever its called these days in it just to see if i can notice any running/performance improvements! i could tell with my mini so we'll see! i'll let everyone know!
Is your Clipper standard 1.8 carb?? I thought timing may need tweaking to run 98RON but then again I'm probably wrong, I usually am just ask the wife

i jus had my fuel tank changed so filled it with super unleaded then when i need to fill again jus used normal unleaded and my car (1.8 carb clipper) started running weird then stumbled across this thread so went and filled her up with super again now running like a dream. Never thought it would make that much difference.

If it can run 98RON without adjustment I might just treat the old cabby to some

my clipper is standard but running with a weber 32/34dmtl rather than the pierburg and the timing is slightly advanced as it seems to run far better that way with the weber. i'm gonna put some in on sat morn and see how it goes!

Sorted yr quote issue out
Still got a Pieberg on mine and tempted to put some super in it but really need to know if I'll be taking me engine (or parts of it) home in a carrier bag if I do?

It doesnt make *that* much of a difference unless your running high compressions 9+ I believe as it stops (pre-ignition?) I read loads of stuff on this when I was was investigating carbs.

yeh i dont think putting super in will do anything drastic as to dismantle your engine but you should be able to feel a little bit more response with it i reckon

That's what I'm after, just a little more oomph  but obviously I don't want to damage me engine

You will be ok running whatever fuel you like on a carb mate. It's with early injection engines like the 1.8 8v and 16v where the problems lie. They hadn't stuck knock sensors on them back the so they were set up for specific fuel. My KR would run like a dog on standard, really jerky and stuttery, as soon as super went in it was fine. Then I read up on it and discovered KR's are ment to run super….
