Also I wasn't aware that 8V boxes are stronger than 16V ones, unless he's talking about an 02A vs 020 box. You'd need to confirm which box the car has.

Nice car tho, and cant mock it, but its a bit tatty, and not worth the ?3800 imo. I rekon i could build the same car to a much higher standard for that price! 8)

as for the gearbox the O2A in the Rallye golf was a modified passat unit and as he states 8v? maybe he means G60 as it is an 8v after all
as for his 0-60 times who cares :dontknow: a 215 bhp cab is gonna be fast enough!!!!! FUN IS NOT JUST A STRAIGHT LINE! all you "straight line warriors" need to realise that!!! a standing start from A-B in a few hundered yards is not a test for how good a car is!!

But i agree. Theres much more to racing than that of a straight line

If that engine and G-lader are in good order then i would say its quite feasable to be quoting 215 bhp in a car a few 100 kgs lighter than a Rallye then i would say it had a good power to weight ratio

If you don't care about 0-60 times, don't buy a cabby with a G60 or other engine conversion!

why? you dont need to be a straight line warrior to have a nice modded car do you?
That a different argument altogether. You can't generalise "modified" into one lump, people do different modifications for different reasons. You have to admit many people DO modify for performance reasons. A mild amount would result in tweaks to the original engine, and a greater degree of performance benefit is achieved with a suitable engine conversion. As for straight lines, drag racing is a particular subgroup of performance mods. But mainly when it comes to Mk1 Golfs, most modified cars also handle rather well around the corners too. I know mine does!

if theres a cabby quicker in a straight line id like to race it at the strip the roof make a huge difference on the strip if my setup was in a tintop it would no doubt be late 13s easy

It'll be nippy yeh but its a dog by the looks, paint looks dull, in the door shuts theres still red paint lol….i'd rather have it tatty and red.
Exactly! Never change the colour of a car, unless ur doing the whole shell! Looks so cr P otherwise! Like people who spray their cars different colours to origional, and then leave under the bonnet  :?
Why do it? It looks pants! With the amount of work that cabbys already had done, atleast get a decent spray job, n make it look nice (Sorry for the rant, but i hate people doing 'half a job  )

'As you can see I wanted to keep the classic look just improve it'

As far as I'm concerned sticking a Mk4 'Golf' badge & Range Rover 'Supercharged' badge on the arse end neither keeps the Classic look or improves it
And as for the interior, where did he get it???? Ikea mix & match section
If you're spending ?8k of your money improving your cabby, do it properly. Do what you want under the bonnet but keep the bits Joe public sees original (or at least matching) if that's the plan.
Now I've got that off me chest I'm off to post in the Parts Wanted section.
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

it quite possibly is a shed, but you cant assume your car is faster based on a picture and some boastfull words!

0-60 mph and 1/4 mile times are closely related, obviously due to the physics of what's happening during acceleration. Others have built up empirial formulae to link:
power
weight
1/4 mile times
0-60mph times
which have been proven to be reasonably accurate. An example of one is here:
http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp
Now, a 0-60mph time of 7 secs, gives an (approx) 1/4 mile time of 15.4 secs. A 1.4 mile time of 13 secs equates to a 0-60 of (approx) 4.6 secs. Quite a difference there…..
