What suspension/coilovers...

Post

Too many to chose.

Hello,

I am in the process of trying to select either a suspension kit or coilovers to replace my standard suspension. But there is so many different ones and so many different opinions on what is good and what isn't and what is best that I have no idea where to look next….

This is how she currently sits..

What would people suggest?

I only want a small amount of lowering. I read somewhere that putting new springs on old shock absorbers isn't recommended. Is this true?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Horses for courses really, but I would suggest you only need coil overs if you want to go very low or want to constantly adjust the ride height. I would also suggest a set of eibach springs. As for fitting to old shock absorbers , it depends how old and worn they are.

If you only want  a small amount of lowering I'd suggest new shocks and springs.

If the shocks have been on for a while then they are 'used' to sitting in a small area of movement. When you add lowering springs to old shocks they then are being used in another part of the stem. The seals and the stem wear together, so when you move the position they do have a tenancy to leak. Not always but often.

Plus you have to take everything off to change the springs so why not do the shocks too

I'd suggest a 40mm drop using eibach springs (or similar quality / price) and Bilstein shocks.

If you speak to Mark Carter @ Classic VW parts (you'll find links to the right of the page) he'll sort you out

Actually I've just pulled a set of Spax dampers and springs off my project.

Rears are excellent, front springs have flaky powdercoat, approx 40mm drop.

Yours for £125 posted.
