Hi
I need a replacement fuel distributor for my 1.6 GTi EG engine
Original is  0438 100 059 which is 160cc/min full load,
Does anyone have a list of compatible units?

Cheers

I recently sent sent mine to KMI for reconditioning  and it was condemned as the threads were knackered. They sold me some new castings so give them a ring and see if they can sort you out. Be warned - they were not cheap.

I bought a rough one with the correct part number off eBay, stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. Running like new

Good to hear, well done.

I noticed you quoted the flow rate for your particular distributor… over the years I've read different figures mentioned for various ones, though it's always difficult to know if they're all 100% accurate.

If you had a reference to where you got yours, it would help towards supporting any others I might come across and build up a bigger picture… cheers.

Hi
I managed to get a copy of the Bosch micro fishe test specifications for the Golf GTi EG 1.6 engine and also have a few more Bosch reference guides.

From what I can workout the flow rates are:-

                        0 438 100 059 & 0 438 100 005
                        Setting                Max Allowable
Idle                    6.0ml                         6.8ml
Part Load       40.0ml                        44.0ml
Full Load       160.0ml                      175.0ml

                                    0 438 100 079
                         Setting                Max Allowable
Idle                   6.0ml                         6.7ml
Part Load       40.0ml                        43.0ml
Full Load       160.0ml                      175.0ml

                                   0 438 100 100
                        Setting                Max Allowable
Idle                    6.0ml                         6.6ml
Part Load       40.0ml                        43.0ml
Full Load       110.0ml                      120.0ml

As mine had an 059 from factory it not run with a 100 as it was too lean on higher revs.

The 059 and 005 seem to be the same.

The 059 and 079 are so close that there would be no noticeable difference.
From the Bosch main site I found that the still remanufacture them and give the following as equivalent

F026TX2026
0986438023
0438100023
0986438079
0438100079
0438100059
0438100022
Also 0438 100 005 should be the same.

The main thing to ensure is to set the pressures from the WUR working correctly and spot on.

Also I have noticed that sparkplugs make a big difference to the smoothness at idle.
With NGK iridum plugs the idle was good but slightly lumpy/poppy,
When replaced with Bosch the idle was smooth with no vibration or lumpiness.
Both sets were new and of the correct heat rating so I am only going to use Bosch from now on.

Regards
Dave

Excellent stuff, to see the correct flow rates is gold…  you've clarified a few of the questions I'd on my mind all in one go, cheers!
