Temperature control on dashboard doesn’t open heater valve in engine

Hi
When I move the temperature control in the dashboard it doesn’t move the heater control valve in engine bay. I can move the valve manually from engine bay- so pretty sure the valve is ok. I’m thinking the cable has maybe became detached in the dash somewhere- can this be checked without taking the dashboard out? And could the cable therefore be replaced without removing the dashboard?

Yes if you remove the car radio you will see the top of the controls for the heater and should see the end of the cable which operates the valve in the engine bay.
