Price quote for gearbox rebuild?

Post

Hi all, decided it's finally time to get my box out over winter and rebuild it, clunky diff & cold crunches into 2nd gear, I've been quoted £421 + vat for a full rebuild, does this sound reasonable value? This is a well known place been going for years and offer 18 month/18000 mile warranty on their fully rebuilt boxes

Yep that sound about right, it's time consuming and you need alot of specialist tools.
£608 here for a rebuilt gearbox

This is why alot of people go for a good second hand gearbox.

At least if you do get it rebuilt you know it should be good for a good few years.

Cheers for the reply, I think it's worth while & gives me the chance to replace my split cv boot & front wheel bearing at the same time, also do you know which gearbox code I have? Its a 1990 clipper 1.8 5 speed, I was under the impression its an 020 but not sure? Thanks

They are 020 gearboxes but they have different internals if you want to find out which gearbox you have and the ratios, flange size etc. there is a flat plate on the gearbox with a code on it, mines a ACD gearbox.

You can see the flat plate on the front of the gearbox in the picture, in line with the exhaust manifold in the picture (I can't seem to draw on the picture in photobucket at the moment!)

Ignore the oil leak, that what happens when the oil seal above the oil cooler spits when driving!
