Non return valve for screen wash

Post

Guys,
Replacing the pipes from reservoirs/pumps to screens (front and back) on my Mk1 Campaign. Being a little pedantic on this - and want to do it right - do it once!! Have bought new pipe, new pumps (one was defunct), new nozzles - even flushed the reservoirs out to remove old gunk that had collected inside.

Looking at a parts breakdown on www.oemepc.com I can see that it lists a non return valve on the rear (could not see one on the front). I bought two - topran brand - cost couple of pennies.

1. Anyone used non return valve(s)? If so, just the rear or both?
2. I see the benefit - prevents screen wash returning to the reservoir so you get a quicker squirt next time - especially on the rear. Any issues with them through. If they stop working could be a pain to replace.
3. Lastly - where to put them - I would have thought close to the reservoir - other wise what is the point in them?

All part of the lockdown effort to get around to fixing issues I have been meaning to do for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages…………

Cheers,
Dave

Nope haven't  used them as I completely obliterated the system and replaced it all.

But make sense to have them next to the reservoir.

Why not use them both front and rear?

Good question. Purely because the schematic diagram only shows/lists a non return valve for the rear screen washer - but if it works OK will add one to the front as well :)

Cheers!

Would guess rear has non return value because its run goes up to the top of the hatch which will increase the siphon effect drawing the washer fluid back to the washer bottle? Its quite a long run compared to the front so a lot of empty pipe to refill
