My ball's dropped off...

Post

I found the rubber ball from the end of the gear shift relay sitting on the drive this morning and although I gave it a good clean and have done a temporary repair to stop it falling off again (that may have involved some tie wraps) but it really needs to be replaced.

A bit of searching gives me the part number (171711163E) for the whole bit and it seems that VWH have some. The bay of E also have some that look the same (with a different number) that are about 1/4 of the price however the VWH say that theirs fit 4 and 5 speed, but the fleabay ones say that they're for 5 speed.

So the question is, is the 4 speed 'relay lever with ball' actually the same as the 5?

they are both right, just not giving you all the details :P

171711163E is 5 speed, and also later 4 speed from chassis number 261713 onwards.

you can actually buy the part from VW still, though its £35+VAT

Not going to reply to obvious.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

How do you know this stuff??? Sometimes I don't know what day of the week it is…:lol:Anyway as it's a Caddy, the VIN starts with 012*** but it's from 1986 so I've gone for one, for the sake of £7, cheers for the info !

Yup, tried them (I get quite a bit from them now) but didn't have anything.

As for a meet, it sounds like an idea, let us know when and where and I'll see what we can do - it's the Lands End trial at the end of the month and the next "Drag and Drift' at Perranporth is on 12 May, perhaps we could combine the 2?

for the caddy the 4 and 5 speed lever is the same so you're sorted.

Got the finer detail from ETKA which is what the dealers use, so that helps :)
