Hello Guys,
I've got a couple of threads going at the minute on my carbed GTI and did have a quick search but did't find any info.
I'm in the process of fitting a Nodiz electronic ignition to my DX engine and was wondering if anyone else has done a distributor delete of some sort?
The dizzy will be surplus to requirements and I'd rather take it off completely and fit a blanking plate to the engine hole rather than butcher what is there to stop it spinning around.
I'm guessing either a round metal/ally bung with a rubber seal could be fitted retained by the dizzy bracket or a purpose made cap utilising the bolt hole.
Any pointers appreciated.

What triggers the Nodiz?

I'm fitting a 36 tooth trigger wheel to the auxillary crank pulley and have to cobble together a crank sensor bracket off the rear of the block to pick up the signal.
The GSXR bike carbs also have a throttle position sensor to give a full 3D mapable set of inputs.
Easy in theory, a pain in the ar$e trying to fit to a 30 odd year old car stuck in the garage though.

If you can make a crank sensor bracket then making a dizzy blanking plate will be easy. I was guessing that some of these aftermarket ignition things can use the points or hall sensor in the dizzy to trigger - but it would need to not have any vac/mech advance. Some of the later VW Golf dizzys are like this.

Ah no sadly not
My car has a later Hall sensor dizzy fitted from a digifant already but all of the rest of the ECU has been removed by the previous owner so the Nodiz (or similar) was my only solution moving forward.
I've got no control of the hall sensor or any timing advance.
And when i say I'm cobbling a sensor bracket together, it really will be cobbled until I can get a machine shop to produce a CNC version.
I'm an architect so I can produce a CAD design for the part once I know a rough position

You will need to keep the dissy as it drives the oil pump from the cog on the intermediate shaft.

Did the mk2 1.8 16v block not have a blanking cover, over the distributor hole?
