Right guys as titled

Just want to make sure this gasket was mounted the right way round as I've seen others with the spare loop on the other side before

Secondly this is one of the many hose in and around the inlet, question is this one appears to be capped off and blocked.

Is that correct?

not sure if this helps but the pipe coming over the inlet looks like the one capped off on your car. gasket looks ok to me

Yep thats the one, was connected the same way as yours.

Only reason I ask about the gasket is because it did have a slight leak

There is 2 types of inlet manifold gasket, the one in your picture with the hoop is really for carb cars as they have a water feed to the inlet manifold to with heating up the carb and prevent carb freezing.
It will fit ok with no problems but VW would of fitted a gasket with out the loop so it's been changed some time in the cars life. The one VW fits to fuel injection cars is like this one..

It's worth wrapping your steering UJ rubber boot as when you fit the 4,2,1 manifold it will be very close to it and the cost of a plumbers mat is a lot cheaper than a new rubber boot as scene tax has pushed the price up to a silly amount….

I used a mat like this and a couple of cable ties to hold it in place, it's better if you use metal ties like when you wrapped the down pipe…

Looks like have also found some money stuck to your inlet manifold…..
Not sure on the pipe as it’s to cold and dark to go out side and have a look at my car, I’ll check tomorrow. :thumbs:

There is some flex in the joint between the original exhaust and 4,2,1, it's a bit like the C clamp set up VW used but with 2 bolts with springs… seems to work but took lots of little adjustments on the exhaust system to stop it rattling/hitting parts of the body or heat shields…

Lucky the number plate came with the car when I got it.

I do enjoy the Mk1 Scirocco it's like you sit on the Mk1 Golf with the windscreen in the near upright position but slide into the Mk1 Scirocco as the roof is lower, sloping windscreen and you have to sit lower and more laid back. A lot less Mk1 Scirocco about now a days than Mk1 Golfs and for some reason they seem to be worth less than Golfs… Not that I ever intend to sell mine, it’s now road tax free…

The stain has finally come off the driveway and the couple of miles up the road I drove with oil spraying out, the smoke cloud behind me gave the game away that something was wrong… lucky I always have some spare oil in the boot as when I stopped to see what was wrong it was well below the minimum mark on the dip stick, I put in 2l of oil and drove home. It all went pair shaped because of a rubber seal which looked a little hard and I planed to change at the next oil change as you have to remove the oil filter and lower the oil cooler to fit, took a couple of minutes to fit new seal…
If yours looks old it's worth changing it at some point, the seal sits on top of the water feed oil cooler if you have that type and not an air cooled oil cooler…

Send it a top birds eye view over the top of the engine.  Hopefully can work out were that pipe goes for sure.
