Been a while since I've posted anything…
Is there a wiring diagram for a 1991 clippers ignition loom anywhere? Or can someone tell me which wire colour relates to what function please?
I've been sorting out the rats nest of wires in the car and I'm adding a new immobiliser too, so I need to identify the relevant engine electrics . Proving hard to find the info I need. Ive already spent a bit of time re connecting bodges and don't want to cut any more wires than needed.

That's a cracking bit of information. it actually makes sense (unlike the haynes ones).
Its turned into a bit of a bigger job than 1st thought..

I'd be interested to know more about how you did it…
How much did all the wire cost? What gauge? How did you do the plugs etc.

But in short (ha ha!) I had a carb car with a wiring loom that had been hacked through the years, it also had splits, rot and scrapes in it plus various things didn't work when I got the car. Plus I want ed to add an upgraded head light loom, electric windows, boot popper, massive stereo and an alarm with central locking. I wanted to tuck the loom to tidy up the bay as well. I also put the battery in the boot, just to make life more difficult.
But the easiest way to do it is to get another loom from a breaker or a scrapyard. That way you can keep the wire colours the same and use the correct gauge wires. Although to be honest for things that have a small draw of amps the gauge of the wire isn't massively critical.
I just measured the thickness of wires and then bought cable of the same diameter or gauge. There's plenty of websites with info on types of wire and what to use where.
Plugs wise I ended up using a lot of the originals. Buy a de pinning kit and you can remove the pins from the plugs to be able to re-use them. The pins can be bought separately from wiring specialists.
I think Classic vw do some of the connectors and Werk34 do some too.

But the most important thing is a spare loom. Makes life so much easier. Once you have a look at the fuse box it begins to make more sense.
The looms are split into different bits of the car, If it's the dash bit that's giving you problems then sort it out wire by wire.
Good crimping tools are a must as are good quality connectors.
Test each wire for continuity after doing anything to it and just keep going. Trying to keep track of things is difficult so use plenty of notes and piccies.

I think you're right - I should just get another loom. My windows/hood/seats etc are all on separate looms anyway.
That website is handy. I want to redo the electric window wiring, so I need new connectors for that and central locking.
Was the boot popper hard to install? I'm in two minds about added the boot to the CL. I don't like it unlocked while I'm driving.

The tin tops use a locking system that doesn't really work for poppers as it works the wrong way. The pushing action moves a lever which pushes something else at an angle. I used a pull actuator but I have to keep resetting it. nightmare!
