Hot air blower kaput

Post

Hi all. As stated my hot air blower has packed in.
Do you think it will definitely be the motor? Not working on any speed.
If it is the motor where<s the best place for a new replacement and how easy is it to replace?
Thanks.

a/c or non-a/c,

I would suggest that you do a little trouble shooting first.

The connector on the side of the Heater box, with the wires that lead to the motor are subject to burning and
loss of connectivity.  So a cursory check is warranted.
If your Brown wire is Toasty, then you want to jumper it out.

secondly I would remove the switch from the connector, and find the large red(or red/white) wire as that is input, and measure that for 12V to ground.

If you have 12V on that lead then using a wire held in pliers jumper that to any of the other colored wires, (they are all 12V to the motor save for the 12v in, ground to the motor is on the left side of the heater box a white or yellowed connector, and that ground comes from the Steering Shaft case to the heater side of the connector, through the connector and to the motor.

If you have a good ground to the motor, and jumper any of the wires to the red or Red/white wire,  Colors vary, so the wire that has 12V switched to it is the hot, the others will not.  If the motor doesn't spin, then it is the motor.

Replacing it isn't fun as you have the rain tray to work with.

A/c is different than non-a/c and there are 4 screws that you have to deal with that are under the knee-bar on a AC equipped.  I find that a 18" long number 2 Phillips that is magnetized to be a godsend. There are 3 on the right side of the car, (the fresh air intake, and one on the left side)  If you have electric windows, then the controller is a tad in your way.

Usually it is the switch, but then again I have had 3 90's Cabbies that had fried grounds at the connector on the heaterbox.

I have had one motor go bad, and it was more of my fault than the motor, as I dropped it while cleaning it.

The non-a/c equipped I don't have any first hand information on…but I think it would be a bit easier than the a/c, and it is a cheaper (cost wise) than the a/c one.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks. I will investigate as you suggest. It's just bog standard non-a/c.

When you remove the cover for the blower, make sure you and turn the fan by hand because they can seize if not used for some time.
