Any idea why this is doing this please? Just want to make sure it isnt linked to the problems I'm having or worse still taking 53 relay out isnt affecting anything else (pretty sure 53 just does the horn tho)
Thanks

Does the horn relay click?
Could be a stuck relay.
Also the tab from the steering column assembly can touch the contact ring under the wheel or the tabs is bent down shorting against one of the screws that hold the assembly in place.

You could have the horn ground shorted to a ground source, Could be a Water migrated relay, a regular 53 relay is used and you can use a 40a fog light relay form a parts store.
Here are 2 of the weirdest ones I personally have seen on my rides.
The turn signal wiper arm bent and shorted out to the case of it.
Then I had a Turn/Wiper stalk screw that was stripped and shorted out to the slip ring on the steering wheel.
That was one of the easiest things to fix. I took the bolt out, and took it to my hardware store and got a sheet metal screw the same length, and used it. It bit into the upper steering switch/bearing holder and tighten up nicely, was about 30 minutes work versus ordering the upper bearing waiting for it to show up and I figured that the other 2 were probably the same state so I replaced all 3.
