hi again so i made it back with no reverse and only 3r and 4th gear. One of my problems is the heating is bloody hot even on cold and being its 30c, why is it very hot or extremely hot coming out the air vents. Is this why it seems to me i have a heating problem with my car even though some of you say 3/4 on the engine heat gauge is normal even on a motorway at 80kmh. I did not turn on the fan but i will try tomorrow now i am home with a full charge on my battery to see if that works, prob blow even more hot air lol

Hi… you are blowing hot air since external is 30c you will only get that coming in.. unless you have aircon. Get roof down and have a nice hat ..
I always dream of driving from Lincoln to granada / Malaga .but I think my car would not make the journey. Make sure thermostat works at 85- 93c water temp, would expect radiator fan to be active within few minutes of normal use in high temperatures.

I guess your heater control valve needs adjustment on the cable (make sure it's fully closed when cold air wanted) or the valve is shot, remove the valve from the engine bay (you will lose some coolant) wash the valve and blow through it, if you can blow through it so can the hot coolant from the engine so new valve needed.

replace the vw heater valve with a Porsche 944 non-vacuum valve...works easier and shuts the heater core completely.
