I have been offered a mk1 golf gti cabriolet 1986 on a d plate when i hpi it everything is clear low owner car last owner 16 years but the model says Volkswagen other on the v5 hpi shows its never been exported or imported etc
Has any else ever heard of this or know why or how its happened and will it affect the value of the car and can it be changed or is it now too late?
My worry is it doesnt show its a golf or more importantly a gti
Thanks for your help in advance
Hopefully soon the be a mk1 golf cab owner

Sometimes the V5 are not filled in correctly by the garage selling the car when new, if you look at the data sticker in the boot (should be stuck to the rear cross brace) it will tell you the engine code (should be DX) and other codes will tell you what the car came with out of the factory.

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

I don't think it's a concern, as already stated, sometimes on first registration the details aren't filled in correctly.

Resale value is not an issue, anyone who worries about this is worrying unnecessarily, just move on to another buyer.

The car is what the manufacturers label says it is.

My tin top gti is a saloon according to my logbook, rather than a hatchback. No idea why, I have sometimes wondered but not enough to do anything about it. Came back hpi clear in my ownership so I'm not too fussed.
