It's best not to get rid of the air box as the carb sits on top of the inlet and exhaust manifold and it's behind the engine so there's a lot of hot air back there, cars run better and produce more power if the air is cold so that is why VW put a long tube going to the front of the car.

You can also suffer from the carb freezing in cold weather if you get rid of the air box as it also has a hot air feed when the car is cold.

Best upgrade is a panel K&N air filter which fits inside the original air box, you may get 1 bhp more but I don't think you will notice the difference but you will never need to buy a air filter again.

VW used the same centre console and fitted a cover, if I remove my cover I've 3 holes for gauges. You can fit some gauges if you wish but you will need senders and wiring.

Are you missing the cover? It looks like this, 1st one I found, shop around as this one is expensive for a bit of plastic…..

Not sure on inner lights but I guess you can get some new fixings?

I'm not sure so maybe post up another thread on this…..

I think Mk2 golfs had the same inner spot lights as the cabriolet?

This may work but have a look at what your are like…

There is a few different sets on eBay.

Might also be worth phoning your local VW dealer to see if they can get some or maybe give you a part number, I have found that sometimes theVW dealer is cheaper than eBay….
