Fuel Pump Primes But Wont Run on startup
Need some advice on the dreaded fuel pump. So the fuel pump runs and the car fires up, runs and idles when I bridge the fuse box ( the relays are blade fittings), I will say the pump only runs when the ignition is on, once I turn the key to off the pump stops.
I have put a new relay in (with a fuse on the top of the relay) the pump primes for 1-2 seconds and then stops which I believe is normal. However when I try to start the engine it wont fire and I don't hear the pump trying to run.
If I take the relay out and I go back to bridging the fuse box it starts straight up and idles
Any ideas?
Thanks

no idea if they work the same otherwise
there was some chat about the fuel pump relay has to be a specific expensive relay and not a generic one

Images below show my actual fuse box. Circled is where the relay is supposed to go. First 2 pics are of the fusebox I have, the second 2 pics are of the relay that fits (has the fuse on top), primes but wont run on turn over. The last pic is the after market 'date correct relay' but the blades are too big and the small pin has the wrong orientation and location.
I pulled this fusebox from a '83 rabbit as my original box was screwed Am I missing something simple?

Yeah jumping the pins is what i am doing now. I used cabby-info and the relay for my model doesn't fit the fusebox .
I think i will move on to finishing the car and come back to it later as jumping the pins the pump runs when ignition is on and the car idles and runs when pins are jumped.
