Help needed
Hi, I am in the process of rebuilding my 1.8 gti 1988 fuel distributor, I purchased a rebuild kit off eBay which I was assured was suitable for my car. However once we had taken the part apart we realised the gasket is not correct as the breather hole is in the wrong position. It is 90* out as it is at 6o'clock instead of 9o'clock any advice regarding this. As I would like to rebuild it instead of buying a replacement. [i have attached the new gasket and arrived the position of the breather hole on the gasket and where the breather hole is on the part attachment

Looking at the marks on the metal bit, 12, it looks like the gasket previously had 3 holes. If you move it round it looks like it will orientate correctly.

Can you post a pic of the base without the diaphragm in the way?
My car is an 83, and the location of the top/bottom mounting screws looks different.

Here is a pic of the base and with the breather hole lined up but one of the bolt holes is covered on the right and the second pic is of the holes lined up and the breather hole is at the top

My car is a 1988 1.8 gti cabby so it has the 150 distributor not the 100 which put on the later mk1's

Hi I've not been feeling the best lately but am going to start the rapt of putting back together today! On a plus side I have managed to source a replacement part incase it doesn't work.

Hi, I found out the hard way of the amount of differences in the manifolds and the repair kit has to match the manifold / metering heads part number. I was almost 3 in before I realised. I assumed the title was sufficient but it is not. Looks like you need a different gasket and make sure you use the advised loktight

I know we have realised that, we are gonna have to drill the additional hole that is required. That is one reason I have sourced the spare part incase the rebuild doesn't work. I have been told that it came off a running car so hopefully one way or another I will get the car running.

Not sure that will work, you will need to seal the existing hole as it will be a leak path for the pressure. Might be worth looking at spending the 40 notes on a new one?
