Post

Hello guys just want to post up a couple issues that I am experiencing with the golf gti its the 1.6, I know the issues above are not related but thought Il put both issues on one page rather than make new topics , so basically as with the clutch pedal creaking when I dip the clutch it just creaks the gears are all good and pulls off well, I cant hear the clutch release bearing making any noise so why would the pedal feel bit hard and creak, now for the battery light showing, when I start the car the battery light shows untill.the car is reved up to   1500-2000 then it disappears I checked  the alternator bushes and they seem good so why does the battery light show each time.the car is started up, all help.appreciated in advance

Battery light is normal. It's meant to come on until the car is rev'ed a tad. It's when it stays on that you start worrying.

The clutch will likely be the cable. They get stiff over time, At the best it'll just need a grease or renewing. At the worst the cable will be eating its way through the bulkhead - Check in the engine bay where the cable pulls through as they are known for acting like a hacksaw and cutting a line in the metalwork. Mine creaks, had a new cable, new clutch/release bearing and the bulkhead is perfect. I've looked at it and just put it down to an old car and likely be the pedal itself, where it joins the steering column transmitting flex up to the dashboard creating a creak. It's charm!

Check the bulk head where the cable goes through, if you don't have a strengthen plate fitted I would recommend fitting one as it such a weak point and silly VW design, it makes a right mess if the cable pulls through the bulk head.

Plate like this, usually comes with double sided tape on the back so you can just stick the thing on with out the need to weld etc, the cable will also hold it in place.

Lots of places sell them, GSF did used to sell them as well.

Battery light, check the earths and connections are clean and making good contact. Clean the contacts for the bushes as well.
See if that makes any difference.
How old is your battery?

Checked the bulk head there is a foamy/rubber thing against the bulk head so I presume this is has been dealt with by the previous owner, cant see any damage to bulk head, just the foamy/rubber cover around it, the, battery isn't to old I'm using a battery from a 1.8 if that makes any difference ,
