Cleaning my engine and engine bay

Post

So I have not done this for many years and want to make sure when doing it to my 1.6 GTI i don't F*** it up. Over time I will get at all the bay with degreaser, brushes, hot soap etc and would really love to remove the 2 big lumps out, strip, blast and repaint but this is a long way off. So for now want to spray with some sort of foam and blast it at the local car wash (don't want the initial blast on my drive:thumbs:)
My intention is to cut a hole in a plastic bag and then remove the dizzy cap and tape the bag to the HT leads and the dizzy itself to give it some protection. Take a dry cloth to clean it out after if needed. Avoid spraying the coil and avoid any direct spray to the air intake (will do with the car ticking over)..

Any other tips before I end up having to push it back home.

Thanks
Craig

Look up on the Internet about Dry Ice Cleaning and have it done with that and you'll not have worry about the electrics or anything.

Not the cheapest but you won't regret either!

Thanks all. I think a blast of degrease and jet wash for now to makes sure all oil weeps are sorted before the dry ice in the new year. Seen a price of 250 inc vat for dry ice but sure I can find it for a better price if I look really hard.

I know it's a bit more expensive back home but I'd of thought around £40 an hour would be about right.

I'll see if I can find my post on it from a year ago! 😀👍
