Worst thing is when you're overtaking in the middle lane and some plonker comes screaming up to your back bumper only to charge past when you pull in when all the while there's been a completely empty outside lane. :banghead:

People need to learn how to use lanes properly and to LOOK AHEAD, seriously the amount of problems caused by people looking two feet past their bumper is ridiculous. :banghead:

I'll stop now before I REALLY get going.

I use a couple of junctions of the M1 to get to and from work, have had for last @10 years. They are on quiet-ish stretch around Wakefield/Sheffield, well quiet compared to the M1/M62 Leeds area or around Manchester/Brum/London.

In the last ten years the traffic has got that busy that people who do pull over to the left are instantly pulling out again to get past a lorry. This means that they are weaving in and out all over the place which I think is dangerous in it self as usually there are no gaps for them to pull back out in to. This leads to 3 lanes of traffic traveling at varying speeds with one lane passing another.

Becasue you arn't suposed to 'undertake' repmobiles are that keen to get into the 'fast' lane that it becomes ram jammed and slows down and middle lanes is traveling faster….

Basically 40+ years ago the wrong decisons where made, public transport was massacared with 99% of town trams junked and most railway branch lines closed. This 'encouraged' everyone to get a car which these days unless you live in London (subsidised tube, trains, bus services and taxis)is now a necessity everywhere else.

And to replace all this lost transport infrastructure they built a few miles of 2 and 3 lane motorways not the 1000s of miles of 4 and 5 lanes that were really required.

Off topic but thats my rant of the day.

I regularly tow, the max speed while towing is 60mph and the max speed a lorry can now do is 56mph, electronically limited. I can't use the outside lane either. So…..if anyone knows why one lorry driver decides to overtake at 56mph, another lorry going 55.9mph, please let me know. I clearly recall a situation when I was sitting in the middle lane, for 6 miles…..

This is due to all vehicles are manufactured with tolerance on the speedometer to allow for tread depth, tyre size and pressure changes. Generally, your speedometer overestimates your speed. So for different makes of vehicles will have defferent settings.

Hope that makes it clear.

OOOOHHHHHH!

Going past someone in the middle lane, pull in.

They think, 'oh no a really old car has passed me, I'll overtake'

Overtake, pull in and then SLOW DOWN. :banghead:

They've been replaced with those Highway Agency Traffic Officers
HATO's for short, or wannabe cops that cruise at 60 trying to cause traffic jams…

I've been driving up and down the country and havn't seen a copper for ages. Seems to me that other motorists are taking the p*ss,overtaking on the inside lane and cutting me up whilst picking their nose. Am I the only decent law abiding motorist?

if youv been overtaken on the inside your HOGGING the middle lane,

thats there way of tellin you to move over

I agree with you there foxy..
get out of the middle lane!!!!

I normally tho, overtake from inside, flash lights, then cut back across into inside lane, some get message, but most dont..

Ihey should make it a crime to sit in middle lane, but then again no police to enforce it  :dontknow:

...but I thought the inside lane is for cars doing 70 mph, the middle lane 80 mph and the outside lane 90 mph.

It isnt a "crime" a motoring offences arent criminal   some peoples driving is mind   its actually careless and inconsiderate driving, its not enforced enough granted, but then everyone becomes a perfect driver the minute a marked police car appears dont they!

and those HATO`s or Wombles as they are known are another expensive waste of time like PCSO`s.. or "CHIMPS" (cant help in most policeing situations) but dont start me on that!

Ok, i dint mean crime as such, but thanks for pointing out.. It should be made a 'motoring offence' then…

Plus i have a HATO living across the road from me, and he's always so smug about it… AAAAGGGHHHH

IT IS A MOTORING OFFENCE…….to occupy a lane for an exesive time without good reason is an endorsable offence, either fine or points or both if it went to court :D

HATO`s are an expensive way of "policing" our motorways, they are nothing more than AA men without the truck! waste of time an effort for a job thats already being done by police.but then this government thinks everything needs privateising or changeing, roll on the summer for a change

What everyone dont realise is as they sneak these jobs in, one day they will turn around and say….oooh if we get rid of all the police now we can pay PCSO`S and HATOS slightly less money and make them work to an extreme contract, judging by most of the PCSO`s and HATO`s i have met they are all pretty dull people and "Wanabees" im afraid, and that can only be a bad thing

We all know its a motoring offence, the real question must be, why are so few people done for it, if it happens so often?

I was never aware it was officialy an offence, but as Paul C says, why does no-one ever get done for it then??
