Stainless Steel filler neck

I was wondering, has anyone used a stainless-steel filler neck?

People seem to talk about them, but putting stainless steel up against other metals surely will cause electrolytic corrosion of the surrounding parts to happen v. quickly? Anyone come across this?

Also, does anyone know a company that fabricates them? What are the proces like?

Theres a gasket inbetween the filler neck and the car body.

mine was a 10er from powerflow - but i am using an aero filler cap - so i joined the two with special filler hose from newtonequipment.co.uk

it looks good and won't rust! no problems with corosion as its not joined with the metal - but i think stainless-to-coated mild steel is fine….

uncoated alloy and stainless have issues though i think…

Did you have powerflow make that as a one off? That is a good price for a stainless filler! Obviously it didn't need the shaped end as you were using that type of filler cap/head…

Hmm, this is a fairly neat idea…

So, if I am understanding this correctly, you got Powerflow make you a stainless filler pipe, which has a rubber hose on both ends (one connecting to the tank and one connecting to the back of the filler cap)?

Did you just go to your local powerflow dealer and get them to modify something they had or (as in the previous post) was it a one off custom fabrication?

Where do you have you stainless filler pipe connected to the chassis? Just using the wheel arch nut?

There's a powerflow place near me, so this might be a good way to go…

Thats the side on view - its held at the apex by the normal bolt into the inner arch…

but the hoses at the top and bottom to give a lot of support to the pipe also.

My uncle brazed on the littler breather outlet for me - although powerflow could do it if you brought along a small enough pipe - they wouldn't have piping that small - that pipe on mine was actually a cut off from an old style towel rail! the right sort of metal for brazing and it polished up nicely too!
mk1al - yeah not having to make the shaped-to panel end did save a lot of time and therefore money! but it looks even better than the old plastic  filler cap - so i reckon its a win win situation 8)

Deffinately a win win - it looks really neat!
Nobody is going to be able to tell either, and probably wouldn't notice, even if you took the cap off!

no probs! Its an areo style cap - aluminium the middle bit locks in place and the outer ring is bolted to the quarter panel.
