Rusty filler neck in 1991 Cabriolet.
:? Having just bought my 1991 Cabriolet , I notice that the fuel filler neck has rusted and has a hole in it. I believe it is a fairly common problem in these. I am wondering where I can go about ordering a replacement and what is involved in replacing same. A friend has suggested that a replacement unit could be made up .

Hi Seanie.
Its pretty hard to get hold of a cabbie filler neck nowadays. Normally you'd have to get one fabricated. The best way is to source a tintop filler neck and adjust that (I think it involves cutting some of the bottom of and using some rubber tubing). You should be able to get a filler neck from Crazyquiff at www.golfmk1.co.uk

I could be wrong, but GSF seem to list them
29320 FUEL FILLER NECK G1C >84 (>Ch.15E011290) 33.00
29320 FUEL FILLER NECK G1 >12/83 33.00
29321 FUEL FILLER NECK G1C 84> (Ch.15ZEK011291>) 96.00
the latter being gold plated

We got a filler neck for a 83 cabby from GSF in Norwich last year no probs. I would try gsf before fabricating.

Yeah would be easier than fabricating. Am wondering if the 29320 that someone mentioned earlier is the ordinary Golf . If so from what I gather this one needs to have some adjustments made. Do you know what number unit you ordered. ?

shawnee mate, despite the fact you haven't uploaded any photos of the new baby yet, I'm about to write a "how to" for absolute noobs on replacing this pipe, using a tintop pipe, i did it today and honestly, I am the least mechanical minded person you ever met(though i'm working on it!)
Check it…
hope u and cabby are good!

Finally got round to getting time to take pics and do some uploading. However it seems there is a prob with uploading pics at present and the facility is removed. However I have the pics and will load when the system is back.
