late cab fuel system

i have a 1.8 FI rivage, and i've traced my fuel line from pump to engine, and this is what i've found…

under the tank there are 3 inline items and then the line goes to the filter under the bonnet,

any ideas what these 3 are, i here that 1 is a second filter fitted on late cabs but that still leaves 2 lol.

if 1 is a filter is it worth changing along with the 1 up front?

i know this sounds really basic but i just want a better understanding of my beloved car, also dam numpties at GSF have sold me a filter with push on ends on it where when i've looked i need the screw type for the front filter. so can any1 point me towards any part numbers as well  :D

thanks for any helps lads.

P.s also give me wrong sized air filter :banghead:  back in the day of German/Swedish they seemed to have a bit more knowledge, anyway heyho

right looked further into it and lower item is pump (i thought this was the thing under rear seat hell knows what that is now :/ or what its job is?)

above that is the second filter it looks a sod to get to, and third item is the fuel accumilator(pass) i think i'm right?

can any1 explain these to me as the fuel takes the journey from tank to my right foot!!!!

thanks  damien.

lots of rust in my left eye now btw

There is a pump in the tank called a lift pump which pumps the fuel into a small strainer filter.

This filter then had 1 connection to the main pump and 2 for the return from the engine bay and back into the tank.

The main fuel pump that comes from the filter goes into the accumulator then up the main supply line the filter on the metering head.

The return line goes back into the strainer filter then the tank,

I hope this helps.

cheers mate,

right think i got it,

u use the word stranier so i imagine a guaze of some sort, is it worth removing this to clean it, or would i be best replacing it?

is this where most blockages would be or would that be more around the lift pump(i assume this will have its own little strainer/filter aswell!

thks again :)

In side the box there is like a really fine guaze like a fabric almost.

I tried to open mine up when I was cleaning the system out and it bascily desintigrated in my hand as its glued shut and i guess not ment to be opened.

When i got inside i found that the gause was torn so it wasnt doing anything anyway probley why my pump was cloged.

I replaced mine in the end with a part from vw as i had no other option.

Its probley worth replace as i dont think its that expencive from VW if you have any worrys with it.
