Is this fuel pickup broken?
'83 GX 1.5 carb (standard)
Right then I've been having some problems with my golf cutting out on hills. It's especially bad when sitting in traffic - 2 consecutive days same incline same problems, splutters and dies even when I put my foot to the floor.
Did it last night on the hill up to my house. Greater incline but I was moving quickly (40, not speeding  )
I was spluttering and losing power up the hill but when I got to the flat road it was okay.
It only happens when I start getting down to half a tank of fuel (gauge reading accurately)
I read on another thread the pickup lines in the tank can degrade and break.
So I whipped the pickup out this morning before work and the end of the pipe looks roughish like the pipe has snapped.
So. Does this look broken to you.
Chers, Dave.

Its definitely broken, because the top bit's broken now. Also the lower part has been 'bodged' in the past, because it should be all white/cream and have a filter at the end. I think it should be longer too.

Yup, I broke the top bit getting it out. Very stiff plastic bits and brute force don't really mix.
ops:
Thought it should have been longer, I'll track down another.
Thanks,
Dave

Take care. The GTi and Carb pick-up are different.
