EXHAUSTS - HELP - Standard or otherwise????

Help, exhaust (back box) fell of the motor on Saturday afternoon. (It now sounds louder than the Corvettes at LM!!)

I don't want a horrendously loud (boy racer) type exhaust so am torn between going for a full standard system or whether I should invest in a Powerflow SS (Lifetime guarentee).

Has anyone had any experience of these?? And would you recommend them??

I would go for the standard system, definitely not in stainless, it's thin and brittle. I've got a Timax centre section on my black GTI that was on it when I bought it in 1995 and its still perfectly OK. The rear box is a standard pattern made by Ernst and that's about nine years old now.

i remember when almost every mk1 had a 2 3/4 inch supersprint back box, sounds just as standard but finishes off the rear end

thats whats going on mine when i get the car in 11 days and counting  :mrgreen:

full system, including mani and straight through centre (no silencer)… had the setup on my 1.6 and made no difference to the note anyway! :dontknow:

The Ernst system I had on my Mk2 weighted double the cheap system I cut off the car.  You wouldn't notice by looking at it (the welding was better though) but i suppose it would have been 3 times the thickness of metal that makes it last.

the one down here got shut down because the number of letters written and complaints!
so much for lifetime.

They fitted a 4" JAP TIP! to mine when i asked them to do a 3"  outward rolled one, i left pictures inside the car from their website of which one i wanted, and wrote down the product number and told them which one and they still got it wrong.

Then moaned when i made them change it to what i asked, also didnt use gaskets ans came out the garage blowing and sounding terrible, and clunked on the bodywork underneath.

Never again will i go for one of them, its either supersprint for me or OEM
