Original radio
Does anyone have any idea which type of radio/casette player (if any) would have been originally fitted to Oct '82 GL tintop????

I've got a brochure with a GL interior in it, it's got a radio/cassette player fitted, but I can't see any brand name! You could get a nice simple 80's Blaupunkt radio/cassette if you wanted it to look original?

The caddy still has the original radio, its a radiomobile(never ever heard of them before) Only has MW and LW and one speaker output.

Radiomobile was a very popular (and well respected) make in the 70s and 80s.
My 1983 1.1C has a Hitachi ! which still sort of works…

So I truely have a classic lol, bit crap though for a 1988 car/van to not have fm or a cassette player! Hitachi wow thats a bit of class! Hopefully going to install a cb radio in my caddy at some point, got a massive aerial to bolt on the back, tops off the classic in car entertainment.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the advice. The options seem quite wide!
I've got a Philips radio/casette lurking around somewhere which I removed from a '79 VW Derby I used to own- Will do nicely……If it still works!
Have any of you chaps used a tape casette converter- where you can play an MP3 digital walkman through an old style tape player??- seems to be the best of both worlds. I've tried one out on the camper stereo and the sound is pretty good ….Much cheaper than a CD player !!
Cheers. M.

I came across this site the other day when I was looking into the old stereo I have in my '83 GTI…
http://translate.googl…3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff
Mines the one at the bottom of the page.
I use a tape adapter in it and the sound is surprisingly good. I got mine from here…
http://cpc.farnell.com…Ntt=cassette+adapter&Ntx= Think it was the cheapest one. You can get them from loads of places though like comet, currys, argos, etc

Very interesting article on the old Pioneer stereos
I once fitted one of the 1977 Pioneer's to a '72 Bay Window camper -v. good piece of kit. Also had a Pioneer in a '87 mk2 Polo.
Cheers

Beware, with those tape adapter things, they can ruin the heads inside your tape player, so if you want to ever play tapes on it again prolonged use is probably not a good idea.
Saying that, I used to use one (hence the reason i know that last bit of information) and they do work well.
Cheers,
Mike.
