MOT NEXT WEEK NO REVERSING LIGHTS

I'm pretty sure it's not something that's tested on an MOT….can't recall it on the additional fail list sheet.

Anyway you'll still want it fixing and the chances are it's the reversing swith that has gone. It sits on the top of your gearbox, will have wires coming from it and can be removed with a spanner. I think they're about ?12 for a new one. It's a common problem on Mk1's and Mk2's

If yours still has the original combined MFA/reverse light switch gearbox, I don?t think the MK1 switches are still available. GSF/Euro will sell you one but it will be the MK11 version. However these still work if re-jig the wires in the loom plug. Its quite easy, there is a thread about somewhere on here about it.

Before you rush out and spend the money, remove the plug and short the connections with a piece of wire and make sure the lights come on (ignition needs to be on), This will prove everything down stream from the switch is OK.

right thought I'd take the switch off from the gearbox and have a fiddle prior to going off to GSF and VW or the scrap yard, got the air blower around the pins and sprayed some WD40 replaced and OH MY GOD i've got reversing lights.   Then went back to the car a couple of hours later and the reversing lights have stop working.

will try again tomorrow !!!
