Fuel Gauge Tip

for a while now, my fuel gauge has been acting up, giving what seemed like random values which bore no relation to the actual fuel level. I assumed that it must be the sender unit, and acquired one from the kind chaps at www.golfmk1.co.uk

now, before i went through the crossed screwdrivers rigmarole with the old sender unit, i thought i'd plug in the new one, and test it worked. hey presto! it didn't!

i checked the resistance of the new sender unit on a multimeter, and lo and behold, it was fine.

this led me to the gauge itself. a few years back, i replaced the standard golf c clocks with one from a cabbie, as it had a rev counter. the sun had faded the red part on the cabbie fuel gauge, so i swapped it with my original one.

anyway, after i pulled the whole lot out and checked the back of the clocks unit, one of the connection nuts for the gauge had come loose, and was obviously causing trouble!

moral of the story? not sure, but just thought i'd tell people, so they don't have to go through the same.

Cheers for the heads up! Not a fault I've come across but sounds like one of those niggly little faults you can spend days looking for!

Cheers
Andy
