4 light front grille - the brown wire

HI,

I've just stuck the 4 light grille back in my GTi.  There's two wires off the back of each of the inner lights, simply my question is:  is the brown wire in each case an earth?

i must correct you on that one all the brown wires are earth  

Rov 716Y, I understand exactly. but if I had said that, some bright spark
would post up that he had some obscure manifold pressure transponder device which was powered through a Thick Brown wire that was 12v +. !!
