original quartets came in 87/88 I think, with plastic bumpers but colour keyed. The convertible GTI spec in 7/88 had same colour scheme but had the body kit that came on all the later models and I think they were often referred to as quartets but not in my copy of the 7/88 brochure.

There were four exterior colours
Alpine white
Paprika Red
Helios Blue
Sapphire metallic

Four roof colours

Alpine white
Paprika red
Atoll blue
Dove grey

Four interior colours

Lasky white
Carmine red
Mauritius blue
Dove grey

You could mix and match momost if the colours

Wheels were all the snowflakes, colour keyed on all but the sapphire I think which had black centres in between the polished spokes.

more info here, as the spec was offered in a few countries.

I hope you don't mind the bump here but I have a suspicion that my cabriolet may be a quarter. It's a November 87' model and did have alpine white paintwork, lasky white interior and colour coded snowflakes. The bumpers were gone when it was purchased by my family but I believe it would have had the colour coded plastics. The hood was black but I do not believe this to be original to the car. Can you offer any further advice in identifying the model?

Cheers.

I've got an '87 quartet.. these were colour combos which were available in 64 different options. Depending on when yours was 1st registered would define whether it was a small or big bumper model.. if you have no paperwork on it you can contact Volkswagen Germany & they will confirm your vehicle name if you like, engine code\cc & extras added - 3 digit codes. They won't be able to tell you what these are due to them being an option in the UK. All the wheel were scalas\avus\snowflakes with the colour options.
They did a cabriolet version for a 1.6 75bhp. Additional on a GTI was the red grille surround, airblades on drivers windscreen wiper & the MFA. They also had chrome trim surrounds. I contacted www.volkswagenag.de where they confirmed the VIN, speed, PS, colour of body, hood & interior, date of production & delivery\registration in the UK.

Cheers matey, do you know if/where there is a guide for translating the sticker in the boot? I think the sticker is still there and I know it's possible to work out the spec etc via the code.
