Another mk1!?

Hi all. I sold my cabrio some while ago. And had ended up buying an old air cooled bus. Since then I have had twins. So ended up buying a sharan. I also have a nice mk1 tt. I am thinking if selling this and getting a mk1 again. Any suggestions welcomed. I will be putting a ad up in the wanted section soon. And welcome a trade. Cheers. Simon.

Cabrio's only have lap belts in the back, if you are thinking of transport with the kids then this will be an issue, yes there is a kit from crazy quiff for 3 point belts but is it worth it!

Buy a tin top

Been having a look around. Not much about at moment. If its a cabby, it will have to be a gti or a sportline

Hi, I have a cabby gti, bought it as I couldn't get the little one in a two seater. Then discovered the seat belt issue.
However, they don't stay babies for long, some car seats are not recommended for lap belts but I have a britax that despite the recommended 3 point harness will take the rear seat out before the baby seat moves! Used it all summer! I have another on the way, so wifey (most likely me) will be in the back with the now 3year old and baby in the front. Another 6 months and for the miles we drive I may well abandon the kids seat in the back and just use a lap belt.
That said it your kids safety. I've also discovered u can't put the hood down for long due to the breeze!
Tbh is a pain in the a.se if it wasn't for dedication and love of mk1 for the right offer I'd sell the cabby for a tin top (or dare I say it a mk2!)

It's only going to be a second car. My audi has done less than 1k in the last year!  It will be more of a hobby than anything else. I should never have sold my last one!  I like the mk2 also!  I might see what interest I have in the tt and hopefully I will find something decent.

Hi mate
I would just keep an open mind finding either one in good condition is the most important thing.
But saying that at the shows last year I did have some tin top owners taking the Micky saying that my 87 cabby was just a mark 2 in disguise !! Lol
Cheers
Neil

That's true mate. I am not fussed about mileage or age. As long as its a decent one.

i had a baby car seat with an 'ISO' style base that only attaches with the lap part of the rear 3 point belt, might work on a cab but since the reel part is all floppy it might not be suitable id imagine it'll get in the way of the seat base

if its just a second car then why not get the cabby - only use it when you don't have the kids or when you only have the one - spec if you cant put the roof down with them in the back any way?!?!

also the tin tops seem to be selling for stupid money at the moment where as you can pick a cabby up for a lot cheaper. more money to spend on the children (or that's what you can tell the wife!)

Seriously, why hesitate? If the rear seatbelts are an issue, leave the kids with Grandparents or local kids home and get the real MK1, a Cabriolet.
Tintops are driven by people who settle for second best!
I own 4 Cabs and am ashamed to say I bought 2 Tintops just to see if I was missing anything, BIG mistake!

2 tintops.
3 cabbies, 1 with G60 power, just for fun.
Volvo T5, just for fun.
3.1Ltr V6 Dutton Leggera, just for fun.
Renault 5 GT Turbo, just a money pit!
Several boring cars, just no fun!

Mine is also a second car bit of fun, and I've got to say that whilst I can see the attraction of a tin top, if its the fun element you want then there nothing better than having the roof off, sun shining and a big smile on your face.
Floopy tops all day long for me.

Thanks fella's. looks like cabby's are getting the thumbs up. I loved my old one, and said I would never sell it!  I will stick the tt up for sale - and make room for a cabby. I have been looking everyday, but have not seen anything yet. Fingers crossed it won't be too long.
