The Price of a mk1

Post

Is it me, or has the price of a mk1 rocketed recently, I sold a fairly decent cabby in august, fully painted, taxed, tested, leathered up with loads of extras, and struggled to get £1200.
looking on the net atm, and even rough looking cabbys are asking over 2k, upto the ridiclious of 11k for a sportline i saw the other week.
i know tintops are always worth more, but the overall price at the minute seems to have shot up!

here for a good time, not a long time

Coming close to summer I guess, optimistic sellers hoping to get a buyer just before summer at inflated prices? However prices do seen to be going up and up in general. Worth watching the prices of sciroccos too as there seems to be some crackers out there for hardly anything and they might well follow the mk1 prices.

Should have bought the black 1600, someone else has and is flipping it for £2000. I think it was £800 on the 1st listing. Oh well glad to see the MK1 market is recession free.

Three nice cars, three silly prices, but I suppose a car is only worth what someone will pay so they will find their true level !

The prices are getting silly over in Austria as well and I should know.
So I'm thinking does someone know something we don't?
OK seasonal changes, number of cars for sale at any given time but….

There's something odd going on both with the cars and the parts and the only thing I can think of is the 40th Anniversary.
Saw it as well big time a few years back when 'Scalextric' hit the big 50, the prices even nine months before went through the roof!
I know I bought some at that time, buying them was at fever pitch for that whole year.  :P

Just a thought!

I think with the VW "scene" getting as popular as it has over the last couple of years things like bays, Splits and Karmann Ghia's have become out the question for alot of people, so more are buying things like MK1 & 2 Golfs, T25's etc bumping the prices up massively…… theres hardly any price difference between a t2 bay and a t25 now!!

I think now is the time to invest in things like MK3 and 4 anniversaries, VR6's and early rocco's

Think its a trickle down effect of the rich investing their spare cash in things like art and exotic cars due to their money earning sod all in the bank.

Bugatti's worth £ millions, E-types now fetching £100,000+, Minis and Escorts making tens of £ thousands drag up the value of other more mundane stuff like 70s and 80s hatches and Cabrios.

And cue the hate mail for calling mk1's mundane….

Nah joking aside I think that's a very valid point made above.

It seems just as true for caddy's about two years ago I was looking and there were loads for a couple of hundred they now seem to be going for around 5 times that now.

Have also noticed that mk2 Gti prices are rising quite a bit too....

been hunting the net for what project to undertake next,

ideally mk1, not a massive mk2 fan, but all prices are rising , so might have to think outside the box,

rocco maybe, but its not my 1st choice.
just going to keep saving i reckon for the right one.

At least this is more sensible

I'd be half tempted if it wasn't so far

Personally I can't quite understand why these are worth more than a GTI.

I know they didn't make many but apart from being 'rare' (I hate that word when associated with VW's after all more than 2 isn't rare imo!) it's just a different model innit?

I think it's a 'scene' thing. every one wants a tin top but can't afford them so the less desirable ones go up. But it only happens with certain models. My Derby is one of 276 left on the road. 45k 2 owners FSH etc etc, but it's only worth about £1500 or so. A golf (even a low spec one, more door) would be worth at least double that.

Much weirdness

I'm new, forgive me if this is the wrong place for this, but while we're on the subject of value.
"what's it worth???
http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/uploads/ocf_photos/IMG_3280mk1.JPG

10 years dry storage, ran when she went away but now the primer pump won't run, probably gooed up.
New (back then) lowering springs and shocks and tyres.
original interior, the front seats are tatty.
i used it every day but decided to garage it for restoring.
That isn't gonna happen.

Had some offers of £500. I just don't want to lose out and i don't really know what the old girl is worth.

Its a bit sad for me but i've moved on.

Thanks in advance for any input .

First of all welcome 'boggyb03'!

Secondly we don't really value cars but we can give you a very rough idea if you can tell us a whole lot more about it!
We know nothing about the car.

You tell us all you know and we will do our best to give you any idea, how about that!

The example I like to give if if you phone a car dealer and say I've got this red MK1 3dr how much is it worth?
He'll come back with something like, "I'll give you a quid for it, until I see it!"

You see my point.

Sorry to here your having a tough time of things but it will get better mate!  :)

Knowing what I have sold and for how much over the past few years, yes mk1 prices have risen and nice ones are now out of my price range I think.
