All kidding to one side, there's not a better feeling when it comes to cars when a complete stranger comes up to us and says something like that out of the blue!

I've never put mine in a show because we don't have the same passion here as in the uk, well not in the same way.

So never had a trophy to look at but what strangers have said to me over the past five years, just priceless.

I think that's what keeps me going!

Thats the great thing about driving a classic car in that you will always get someone showing appreciation in some form.

I remember when I bought my car it was a 2 hour drive and I got so many people beeping their horns or putting their thumbs up and nodding. Then when I filled her up at the petrol station just 2 mins from home their was guy who couldn't get enough of it and was deadly serious about buying it off me!

Even now when I go out for a drive I would say about 80% of the time I get some form of appreciation from drivers. Although sometimes after I've acknowledged them it gets a bit awkward coz they're just staring! Lol

Wife is getting embarrassed now if I take her out in it! Happens on most days too, but you don't see mk1s around of any type generally that much and even mk2s are getting thin on the ground. It's this factor and a bit of rose tinted spectacles I fancy that is pushing up the prices. Nevertheless when it looks good and goes well there is an enormous sense of personal achievement.

Trouble is……what next? Considering a Boxster and an S3 combo…….😊😬

Some of the reactions Ive had to my Cabby have been great. My first trip to the garage had the guy there saying how gorgeous my car was. and the other day an old couple followed me down my road stopped said the car looked fab and was it for sale :) apparently his mrs had one when they were new.

I've driven around central London in a mk2 GTI for the past three years and it gets plenty of nods of approval and thumbs up, but the mk1 Cabriolet is in a different league - it gets so many positive comments it's almost embarrassing! Pretty much every time I drive it someone says something positive about it. All sorts of different people and ages too, not just car guys who grew up in the 80s, which is nice. It does make all the effort that goes into getting them looking good seem that bit more worthwhile.

Just pulling your leg mate, I've always said I really do like yours but a bit of banter flying around is one of the most important ingredients to making a great forum!  ;)

Enjoy your Sunday Dean.

Cheers Mike, how you doing? Yeh been to Volksfest Wales today.. Didn't take my cabby as the weathers been awful this weekend.. If I did it would've been the only Mk1 on show! Disappointing in a way..  I did see another Welsh guys yellow cabby, who's on the forum - sorry no name drop dude, in the car park as I left.. Seemed ok but I think the weather got people clearing up relatively early.. Always next year

Cool.. There's a mate of mine who got a MkII small bumper GTI with only about 70k on it & for the past 3-4 years he's completely kinda dissed it, changed this & that not realising the potential this car had!! As for the soft top  it is nice the looks you get, yet as I've said you don't know whether people look & think WTH is tha' or just admire it. Can't wait for a few weeks to have my rims refurbed then get it on your mk1 section & give people some long reading & pic viewing. Gonna get an independent valuation on it too
