Hi all… intrested in your opinions on this one where is the true value. 11k is just madness surely are black more rare then red. Seen a few reds for sale in past but not many black ones. Still what do the members think the 'fair' number should be as to not get done over!!

It sounds like he does not want to sell so asking what they think it's worth to them… Not seeing the car or underneath and what has been done and what's original etc it's hard to say what it's worth…

As the old saying goes… if you don't ask you don't get..

What would you pay for it?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Y'all get outrageous folks selling for over the book.
It is priced not to sale, and he doesn't want to sell it.

First of all there's no such thing as 'Book' prices of course.
But when they were still listed in the black book as we know it you could throw the book out of the window because all the Sportline and GTI Cabby's were making "overs" more than book.
You wouldn't buy one at book.

All we have today is what we know for sure ones are selling for and what there condition was at that time.

We don't see under the bonnet but the 80k is good.
So if we were to swollen every word that the owner has said and spring is almost apon us I'd have to say maybe 9k or once seen and driven if the car is better than expected then go a little more.

But then it's down to his v your negotiating skills.
Interesting the fact that I'm the first to sick my neck out but I think my answer is well explained and I know rough ones are making 5k and more, let's just hope this really is a minter!

The Sportline model has been increasing in value at an insane rate in the past 3 years. ;)

Yeah apprecite you sticking your kneck out. 9k really have any ever sold at this price? Looking back through the classifieds on this site that seems steep and would expect owners cars to be quite well looked after. Like you said all down to what someone will pay. Think i would be at 7k personally, or pick one up cheaper that needs some fettling and still end up about that mark. Its a summer car for me not a daily so hence dont want ££££ sat in garage for 2/3 of the year!!

Fair enough which it simply means that you're looking at the wrong car. Oh and by the way very low mileage ones have sold for a great deal more but not through us.

Not that you are the slightest bit interested but I was a very good car salesman for a large VW/Audi Dealership for 5 1/2 years from 83 to 88. ;)

So just forget this one and good hunting! ;)

Over on this side of the pond, prices are Drastically lower….
When new these Clippers were going for 15-20K dollars.

The used ones are going from 500-6000, with 6000 being less than 40K and Mint condition.
I tried to sell my Green one for 2500 a while back and there were no takers.  Sure it needs some work, and the engine has over 200Kmiles, but it is all complete and runs like a graped ape.

I actually had folks email me would I take 500 for it….

So I still have it, and my son Drives it Dailey.
My Blue one doesn't need anything but care, as it is back to better than OEM, and my wife and kids won't let me sell it, even though they don't like driving in it….. go Figure.

But in his ad, that is sorely lacking visible proof, Engine, Under carrage, pics, His isn't OEM, either.  I didn't see pics of the TOP up.
So sadly as his ad stated "He dosen't really want to sell it" and well pricing that high some sucker will take him up on it, or no one will and he can say to his wife, "See honey, No one wants to buy it, so I suppose we will have to keep it."

You know I used to tell a Joke to folks while working on their Computer Systems.

What's the difference between a Computer salesman and a Used Car salesman……

A Used Car Salesman knows when he is lying.   :)

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL…..

Well maybe the joke is on you my friend because for the last 18 years you've been paying my wages! ;)

I worked as a Systems Administrator for your Federal Government, for the State Department.

I've been at this for the last 25 years until the end of last month when illness has forced me to take early retirement.
I've lost count on the number of Presidents, Secretary of State I've met working on their visits for heads of state meetings throughout Europe since 2000.

I do miss it but certainly don't miss the arrogance of some!
